Would you like to learn to sail and drive a motorboat? Our English SBF Binnen | Sailing + Engine combination prepares you for both qualifications in one complete package.
At FluxAhoi, you combine clear theory lessons with practical training on the Spree. You learn in a small group, with personal guidance throughout the course.
Choose theory on site or the online recording. The complete package costs €755 in either case, including eight practical sessions of three hours each. Motorboat training is integrated into these eight sessions.
Theory explanations are provided in English, together with the German terminology needed for the official examinations.

With the combination, you pay €755 instead of €970 and save €215.
Both theory options include the practical training described below.
Official examination fees, the medical fitness certificate and any optional learning materials are charged separately. You can calculate the current examination fees with the official fee calculator.

Booking note: If you choose theory on site and the booking form asks you to select a date for each course, please choose the same date for Sailing and Engine. Shared topics, including inland navigation rules, are taught together.

How the practical training works
Your practical training consists of eight sessions of three hours each. Sailing and motorboat training are combined within these sessions.
During sailing training, you learn to handle a sailing dinghy, adjust the sails and perform manoeuvres such as tacking, gybing and the man-overboard recovery manoeuvre. Docking and undocking under sail, rope handling and knots are part of the training too.
During motorboat training, you take the helm yourself and practise docking, undocking, the man-overboard recovery manoeuvre, stopping the boat and turning in a confined space.
You arrange your practical dates individually after booking.
Your starting point is our vessel A. Köbis at Caroline-Tübbecke-Ufer in Berlin Stralau, opposite Treptower Park, on the Spree in the middle of Berlin.
The examination
The course prepares you for the official theory and practical examinations for SBF Binnen | Sailing and Engine.
The official examinations are conducted in German. The theory examination uses multiple-choice questions, so an intermediate knowledge of German is required. Our English explanations help you understand the topics while becoming familiar with the German terminology.
On selected dates, you can take the theory and practical examinations at FluxAhoi on A. Köbis. Depending on the date, theory and practice may take place on the same day. We will send you the registration link for examinations at FluxAhoi after you book your course.

You can also take the theory examination separately on a date offered by the Berlin examination committee. The FluxAhoi dates listed above are reserved for our students, so you will not find them on the German Sailing Association’s public examination calendar.

Examination note: You may take the theory and practical examinations on different dates, in either order. You must pass all required parts within one year of taking the first part. If you exceed this period, a part you have already passed expires and must be taken again.
Medical fitness certificate and learning materials
You can obtain the medical fitness certificate from your own doctor. FluxAhoi also regularly offers medical examination appointments on A. Köbis. The cost with us is €30.

What happens after booking?
When booking your combination package, you choose theory on site or the online recording. The package price is €755 with either option, including all eight practical sessions.
If you book theory on site, your lessons take place on the selected date. You also receive the online recording at no additional cost.
If you choose the online option, we will email you the access link to the recording after your payment has been received.
You then arrange your eight practical sessions individually through our online practice booking system. We will email you the login details after your payment has been received.
